I would not spend my money on a plasma tv yet.The technology is improving and will also become less expensive in the next 6-18 months.

Most lcd tvs are fairly close to the picture quality in most plasma tvs-not totally but much more so then they used to be.

I don't know which one is better. But I have a 54'' Toshiba LCD-HDTV, and I couldn't be any happier with it.

Probably LCD. If you watch a lot of sports, get something similar to this.

look around the "similar" area on amazon, those are the types of TVs I'd suggest.  Good for sports and movies, ful 1080p High definition, anti blur(which is great for sports)

I want to thank everyone for input on my question. With your input and research on the internet I have purchased a Visio 42" 1080p LCD. Both my wife and I love this thing. Once again, I want to thank everyone.

I think lcd and plasma are pretty much considered equal these days.  DLP tv's are still basically rear projection and will not be as thin as LCD and Plasma tv's (but that's what makes them cheaper) but have an advantage that they are getting bigger faster.  My main tv in the living room is a 58" HD rear projection tv.  My other three tv's in the house are LCD.  I saw a 65" in LCD at BestBuy for $4000 two days ago.  I think the prices will continue to go down for the larger screen tv's.

the image tends to burn into the lcd's more when its the same image there for a long period of time. as the plasma does not as much and they usually come with something that prevents it from happening.

Actually, not only are LCDs actually less likely to suffer from image burn-in, it is actually impossible for them to burn-in because of how the technology works. They work by blocking the light from a light source external from the displays themselves which means images can't burn in. Plasma displays generate the light on the display itself and can burn-in for that reason.

Back on topic: I would get an LCD because I think the technology is better and more mature. I think plasmas are beginning to be phased out.
